Junior Golfers at Cannington Golf Course (October 2008)

Young Tyler Coleman is one of the latest recruits to the Introductory Junior Golf Programme at Bridgwater College's Cannington Golf Course and just one of the many youngsters who is taking the opportunity to get into golf at the Junior Golf Academy.

Aged from 4 years, they learn the fundamentals of the game in a non-threatening environment where positive enjoyment with fun activities is encouraged. Many progress into the Junior League team, and one in particular has gone right through into the Bridgwater College Golf Academy. Scott Bellinger started at the age of six and has played in the finals of the British Colleges Championship earlier in the year and was member of the successful Academy Team who finished runners up in the National Finals of the Handicap Championship of the intercollegiate tour.

Ron Macrow, the Cannington Professional said "The programme is well received by the youngsters and their carers. I have seen many a shy youngster come through with renewed confidence having been part of these activities. We do insist that a parent or carer of children in the 4 to 10 year age bracket remain in attendance during the sessions and in particular when they are introduced to the golf course for the first time. It gives you a real buzz to see the look on their faces when they start to get the ball in the air and become able to chip and putt the ball down the hole in two strokes."
