Golf course tree planting (April 2010)
As part of the ongoing tree planting programme at the Cannington Centre Golf course, students studying the Foundation Degree in Countryside Management recently spent some time planting native trees on what was a very wet day! Species planted included Alder, Birch, Willow, Cherry, Hazel and Hawthorne, all in bare-root form and planted with guards to protect them from rabbit damage.
Alan Sinclair, Programme Manager for Countryside explained, "The planting was part of a wider development programme across campus, the farm and the estate, to increase the level of tree cover and also increase the biodiversity, where possible." Head Greenkeeper Hugh Murray thanked the students for their hard work and assistance to his team during their busy winter work programme on the course.
