College greenkeeper wins national award (February 2010)

Bridgwater College's Head GreenkeeperBridgwater College's Head Greenkeeper, Hugh Murray, is the latest recipient of the Terrain Aeration Unsung Hero Award, presented at this year's BTME in Harrogate for outstanding commitment to the industry.

Nominated by Will Bowden, the Programme Manager for Sports Turf at Bridgwater College, Hugh has spent the past 15 years not only maintaining the College's golf course at Cannington to a consistently high standard, but also instructing the hundreds of students who have enlisted on the golf and sports turf management programmes run at the College's Cannington Centre. Steve Gingell of the Sports Turf Research Institute spoke on behalf of his fellow judges when he said that Hugh's passion and enthusiasm for the job had made him a tireless ambassador for the turf profession - "Hugh is an exceptional individual and a deserving winner," he said.

Hugh received a cheque for £200 from sponsors Pitchcare and the English Golf Union, as well as a framed certificate and a further cheque from Terrain Aeration.
