Cannington Golf Club – Juniors Meet With Some Success
Cannington Juniors open their 2013 season with a 1 – 3 defeat away to the Juniors of Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club. Injuries and absences due to college commitments meant Cannington had to field a team depleted in numbers.
Nonetheless there were some creditable personal performances in particular that of Harry White who had to play against a Pickeridge pair on his own, in his first ever match and managed to take the game to the 15th hole. At one point he looked as if he might have pulled off a halved match but this wasn’t to be going down 4 and 3.
The more experienced Joe Jasinski was too strong Pickeridge’s Kobe Adams, winning by a convincing 6 and 5 margin.
A week later with a full team against Taunton Vale at home the Junior’s ran out clear winners by a margin of 3 games to 1. Again Harry White partnered by another newcomer Dan Sim won their game by 3 and 2. Scott Laing teaming up with yet another newcomer to the Cannington team Rhys Marshall saw off Tom Alexander and talented Alfie Jubb by 2 and 1.
In the singles unfortunately Joe Jasinski this time went down to Matt Contreas by 4 and 3, Matt’s putt was working extremely well on the day and Joe could not find an answer to it. In the other singles match, having missed the first, James Lloyd let a four hole lead slip to manage a win on the last green demonstrating how he is maturing as a player.
This was a fine performance with two new players drafted into the side much earlier than planned with the loss of players to injury and dropping out of the game.
